Work Wear Wednesday
I’ve found that I have the most success finding vintage items when I’m not actually looking for them. As I’ve already posted, I really enjoy antiquing to find unique, classic items. Last January, I was out with my brother in the West Bottoms to help him pick out furniture for a house he was renovating. While he was checking out a dining room table, I was browsing the clothing racks and stumbled upon this double-breasted wool winter coat. Nope, I wasn’t looking for a new coat but the plaid pattern stood out to me (surprise, surprise). I tried it on and it fit perfectly, it was lined and it was incredibly warm! The coat was also affordable, like under $40. In my experience, it’s hard to find a well-made winter coat that is warm, fits well, and is affordable so I was pretty excited as I left that antique store (I may have actually worn the coat out of the store)!!
As I’ve worn this beauty over the last year, I love it even more now because I’ve found that it can easily be dressed up or down. For a Work Wear Wednesday post, I’m bringing you 3 winter looks ranging from professional to casual that include this classic, vintage winter coat. Depending on your occupation and what you have on your calendar, you may be able to wear any of these looks to work. For what I do, the business casual look is how I roll most days, with some professional work wear sprinkled in and casual Fridays once a week.
Most of the items pictured below I’ve owned for several years but I’ve linked some similar items. For the coat, I’ve linked some new options (also, it’s that time of year when winter coats are on sale-yay!) that are inspired by the coat BUT if you enjoy antiquing or shopping consignment stores, keep your eyes open! These vintage coats are classic and will always be in style; they’re a great statement piece and investment for your wardrobe. Let me know what you find!
