Kiel James Patrick – Sweater Review

I asked and you answered that you would like more information about Kiel James Patrick sweaters. These sweaters are among my very favorite sweaters to wear during the holidays and into January. One of the most frequently asked questions I get on my Instagram feed is about the sizing of KJP’s sweaters. Many of you are overseas and don’t want to deal with returns (completely understandable) and none of us like the hassle of returns.

While I don’t have all of KJP’s sweaters, I’ve shared information about the sizing, fit, comfort, feel, quality, and care of my sweaters below. This information is what you told me you were interested in!

Sizing/Fit & Comfort/Feel

Let’s tackle the sizing/fit and comfort/feel questions because that was the most common question. I’ve found that over the last 3 years, the KJP website answers the fit question really well and the reviews from other buyers are REALLY helpful. All of this is to say that the fit of each sweater is different so read the website description and the reviews.

Here is specific sizing, fit, comfort and feel information on four of KJP’s sweaters.

The Evergreen

This is my absolute favorite KJP sweater and it appears that it’s all of yours as well! I purchased an extra small Evergreen sweater in 2018 when it was a unisex fit (I wear a small in women’s sizes) and, after recently reviewing KJP’s website, it appears that they updated the sizing for this sweater in 2020 and it’s now a women’s fit. After reading their 2020 reviews, it sounds like the 2020 version of the Evergreen sweater runs short in the arms and is tight in the armpits. I recommend sizing up.

This sweater is very thick and warm. If you’re going to be wearing it indoors during the winter, you may not need or want an extra layer underneath. The fabric is listed on their website as a wool acrylic blend but I’m very sensitive to wool and don’t find it itchy at all.

One more thing to note is that the neck of this sweater is almost a mock turtleneck – it hits higher on my neck than other crewneck sweaters.

The Christmas Cookie

This was the second KJP sweater I purchased and the feel and fit of it are different from the Evergreen sweater. It’s a women’s fit, so I ordered my usual size small and that gives me enough room to layer it on top of a collared shirt. Reviewers on the KJP website comment that it fits slightly larger than they thought, so depending on how you want this to fit, you could size down.

The Christmas Cookie sweater is not as thick as the Evergreen sweater but just as warm. The fabric is a wool/mohair/acrylic/nylon blend, with more acrylic than anything else. I like this fabric composition because it’s a warm sweater but not too thick or bulky.

The McCallister

This adorable reindeer/Christmas tree sweater is inspired by Kevin McCallister’s hat in Home Alone. As this is one of my favorite Christmas movies, I love this connection. The pattern is a timeless Christmas pattern that means this is the perfect sweater to wear from Thanksgiving to Christmas for many years to come!

The fit of this sweater is unisex so women should size down. I purchased this sweater for my husband – thinking that I would “borrow” it to wear when I wanted an oversized sweater look. It fits my husband true to size.

The fabric composition is very similar to the Evergreen sweater and is wool/acrylic. It’s again very soft and wearable – it doesn’t scratch or itch when you wear it.

Hit the Slopes

The newest addition to my KJP sweater collection! I ordered it in November, thinking that the design would take me through the winter. Since it’s a ski theme, I plan to wear it allllll winter long!

This is a unisex fit so I purchased an extra small and I’m so glad I did! The fit of this sweater is very different from the others I’ve already reviewed. The extra small fits me more loosely, so I can layer another shirt underneath and still have room to spare. This caught me off-guard when I first tried it on, as I thought it would fit similar to the Evergreen. I don’t mind the more oversized fit but did want to point it out.

The fabric is a wool/acrylic blend but I can tell there’s slightly more wool in this blend than in the others. It’s still soft and not scratchy but definitely different than the other three sweaters.

Quality

The quality of these sweaters makes them worth the price. These aren’t thin cotton sweaters that start piling after one wear. I’ve worn and washed each of these sweaters a few times over the holiday season and they still look brand new. You pay for what you get and you won’t be disappointed. They also make great gifts.

Keep an eye out for KJP sales throughout the year – they’ll sometimes offer free shipping and/or 10%-20% off. If you can catch that sale, then you can save some money; their most popular sweaters almost always sell out by the end of the holiday season so don’t wait too long!

Care/Washability

I have followed the care instructions that come with the sweater and haven’t shrunk or ruined one yet! They consistently say to wash the sweater cold and air dry. I dry my sweaters flat and have never had an issue.

Overall, these classic winter sweaters are so soft, warm, and perfect for the holidays and they make a great gift! I recommend them but take care to read the description and reviews before deciding on a size! Feel free to leave a question below!

XOXO,

Leah
